The Shelter Master Plan
Fellowship for Animals (FFA) is an animal welfare project developing a master plan for a new kind of animal shelter: a clean, modern and healthy facility built to increase adoptions, promote responsible pet ownership and address overpopulation at its source.
The plan brings facility design, day-to-day operations, education and green technology together, so every part of the shelter works toward the same goals.
Healthy, modern facility
A clean, welcoming environment designed around the health of the animals, and around the visitors, volunteers and staff who care for them.
More adoptions
A shelter designed from the ground up to help more healthy animals find homes and get a second chance.
Responsible ownership
Education that continues after adoption, through programs in development such as the Pet Passport reward program and the Companion Guide to everyday pet care.
Overpopulation at its source
Tackling the causes of overpopulation, not only its results, and supporting the people who manage stray and feral colonies through TNR with free tools like Stray.
Green power
A sustainable building that uses modern green technology to create a warm environment for animals and reduce operating costs.
A model for others
A shelter designed to be shared, offering a model that other shelters and communities can learn from and build on.
The facility is a planned project and is coming soon. Follow its progress and find out how you can help.
About the Founder
Josh developed the concept of Fellowship for Animals in 2020 with one goal: build the shelter that animals and communities deserve. Before finalizing a single plan, he spent more than a year talking with many of the country’s best and worst shelters, studying what works, what doesn’t, and where better design and technology could close the gaps. The result is a master plan for a clean, modern, and healthy facility built to increase adoptions, promote responsible pet ownership, and address overpopulation at its source.
Josh is an award-winning designer and product inventor who brings more than 25 years of experience to the mission. Since founding Theory Evolution in 1998, he has built companies from scratch, designed IT networks, led marketing campaigns, and created product and furniture designs. He puts that mix of technical and creative skill to work for animals. He built Stray, a free master database for anyone managing stray and feral colonies through TNR, and launched IsoPets, a creative brand that blends art, education, and animal advocacy.
At home, Josh shares his life with 12 cats. Leading them is Echo, his blind cat, who serves as the official mascot and Chief of Echo Pet Tracker. Echo is a daily reminder of why this work matters: every animal, whatever its challenges, deserves care, a home, and a chance.
